Boulder Electric Vehicle is Carter’s fourth company. The first came and went when he was in High school at The Putney School founding Crooked River Kayaks and turning a 3000% R.O.I. before the age of seventeen. Crooked River Kayaks also provided Carter with a substantial introduction to the world of composites and fiberglass. While at Putney he also built methane generators and solar hot water systems. Carter’s next company Lazer Vaudeville took two years to get to profitability but provided him with a substantial school-of-hard-knocks education in international logistics, business management and federal C.F.R. compliance. Carter’s third company The Boulder Circus Center involved permitting and building a 100% solar powered 9,000. Square foot building in a county renowned for not wanting any buildings built anywhere. In 2006 Carter built the heaviest electric passenger car in the world by converting a 1963 Mercury Monterrey with 1800 Lbs of AGM batteries. This project started his long time association with Bill Dube and the rest of the Boulder Electric Vehicle team.
